Established in 1994, the Lee G. Rubenstein Outstanding Leadership Award has annually honored individuals whose vision, commitment, and leadership have made a lasting impact on the Washington, D.C. community.
The award itself is a sculptural maquette derived from Crossroads, a water sculpture by Barton Rubenstein installed at the entrance of the Edlavitch DCJCC. While the original work engages the movement and energy of flowing water in a public setting, the award translates that spirit into an intimate, hand-held form.
Measuring 10" × 4.5" × 7" high, the sculpture embodies themes of convergence, connection, and forward movement — reflecting the paths individuals take and the lives they influence along the way. Its form suggests intersecting forces and shared direction, symbolizing leadership as both a personal journey and a collective experience.
Presented annually, the Lee G. Rubenstein Outstanding Leadership Award serves not only as a recognition of achievement, but as a lasting artistic tribute to those who help shape and strengthen their community.
